Common questions / Email
Your business email keeps working.
Most businesses already get email from Microsoft, Google, or another provider separate from their website, so we leave it exactly where it is. If your email lives with your old website company, we find that out before we change anything and move it properly, messages included. And please keep your old hosting until we tell you it is safe to cancel.
Will my email stop working when you move my website?
No. In most cases your email is already hosted separately from your website, with Microsoft, Google, or another email provider, so we leave it exactly where it is. If your email is tied to the company that hosts your current website, we find that out before we change anything and make sure it is moved properly as part of the switch. We never guess where your email lives. We check first.
Why does a website move not have to touch my email?
Your domain, the directory that says where each piece lives (DNS), your website, and your email are separate services that often sit with different companies. Moving your website changes the website entries in that directory. Your email has its own entries, and we copy and keep every one of them.
What do you do before anything changes?
We check your domain to see who hosts your email and which settings it relies on, ask you a few quick questions in your portal, copy every setting your domain uses and test the copy, pick a quiet time for the switch and tell you in advance, and test email in, email out, and the website afterward.
My email is with Microsoft 365 or Outlook. What changes?
Nothing for you. We keep every Microsoft setting exactly as it is. Same addresses, same passwords, same Outlook on your computer and phone.
My email is with Google Workspace or Gmail. What changes?
Nothing for you. We keep every Google setting exactly as it is. Same addresses, same passwords, same Gmail everywhere you use it.
What if my email is hosted by my current website company?
This is less common today, but it happens. Your mailboxes live on the same account as your old website, so they have to move before that account is closed. We list every address, shared inbox, and forwarding address you use; you choose a new home for your email, usually Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, in an account you own; we copy your existing messages, not just new ones; we switch delivery over at a quiet time and help you set up your phone and computer; and your old account stays open until everything is confirmed working.
I am not sure who hosts my email. Is that a problem?
Not at all, most owners are not sure. Our check of your domain usually answers it on its own. If it does not, we may ask for a recent email bill or a screenshot of the email settings on your phone.
Do I need new email addresses?
No. You keep the same addresses. Even if your email has to move to a new provider, the addresses stay the same. Only the service behind them changes.
Should I cancel my old hosting?
Not yet. Please do not cancel, downgrade, or let your old hosting account expire until we tell you it is safe. Some hosting accounts quietly include your email, your domain name, or the settings your domain depends on. We confirm none of those are still in use and send you a message when it is safe to cancel.
Will I notice anything during the switch?
Most customers notice nothing. Some changes can take a few hours to reach everyone on the internet, and we plan around that so no email is lost. If your email is being moved, you will set up your phone and computer once, and we will guide you through it.
